Three addresses for your next Berlin trip

By Stella Pelissari

I discovered Berlin about six years ago and since then, I have returned each year; I love this city; Its modern but very bohemian, the parks are big and wonderful and it’s a perfect city to discover by bicycle.  It really is an amazing city, full of fond memories for me...

Berlin is a 24-hour city, full of energy that has been released with the fall of the Berlin wall over 30 years ago, but it is also most definitely a very calm city. Lots of big wide avenues, plenty of trees and lots of ideal picnic spots to absorb that great new city vibe and energy. And there is always some entertainment to be found on the streets, summer concerts, music groups eager to please and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Yes, Berlin has it all… not forgetting some essentials….great shopping centres, the most incredible museums, bars and nightclubs...

There're lots to do!

But after having visited all the traditional places, here are 3 of my personal favourites for you:

1. Chén Chè - Teehaus Berlin

I just love this address…laughter and good memories that I had with my best friends always coming flooding back to me when I enter this restaurant - It’s definitely the best Vietnamese restaurant in Berlin – and maybe in all of Germany

Despite being tucked away down a courtyard in the Mitte district, it’s not particularly difficult to find Chén Chè…

But why go to this place? Firstly because it’s a great oasis of peace in the trendy Mitte neighbourhood.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated in a beautiful setting…I prefer to go for dinner because they have a lovely garden with a fantastic atmosphere with lovely high ceilings adorned with an assortment of Vietnamese hanging lanterns, exudes an immediate exotic charm,  ideal for summer days.

The food is authentic Vietnamese, not westernized, which is great to experience.

The menu, like the venue, is exquisitely balanced. There are around eight starters, a handful of mains and just three delicious-looking desserts. And for finish the tea selection and the cups they are served in are amazing. A very cute spot!!

2. Lux 11 Berlin-Mitte

My favourite hotel? Perhaps!!  Lux 11. is a boutique hotel located in the pulsating heart of Berlin-Mitte,  Surrounded by the shops of Berlin’s fashion scene, art galleries, media agencies and countless cafes, bars and restaurants…all you need, you can find is just around the corner!!!

I love the atmosphere of this Hotel, typical ‘berlin style’, which means for me - modern and comfortable, efficient and relaxed.  The rooms are big and beautifully designed, with a very attentive service, and the price…really good!

When you come back to the hotel after a busy day - just for a “break-bath” before returning to enjoy the night as a true parting Berliner ... enjoy a cocktail at the Prince bar where Breakfast is also served.

I also very much appreciate this restaurant and it's a favourite lunch place for Berliners working in the neighbourhood and the bar is a popular spot to enjoy a good cocktail.

3. The Corner Berlin

I love this awesome emporium, chic and calm, that's how we take pleasure in shopping.

The Corner Shop is a hip boutique blending au courant designers (think Alaia, Carven and Celine) with classics (Balenciaga, Tom Ford and YSL). There is a stunning combination of fashion designers, accessories, cosmetics, jewellery and many others…

This concept store offers, in its 750 m2 space, plenty of sparkle and glamor all in one location!

You’ll find endless style from Christian Louboutin, Dior, YSL, Balmain but also cool gadgets,  special edition iPhone covers, digital cameras and jewellery which are showcased in chic display cases opposite on a shelf full of well-selected magazines.

The Corner Store also features an eclectic selection of rare fashion and photography books, which are perfect for sprucing ones coffee table or as a cherished gift to a friend.

To top it off, the inventory includes beautiful home accessories, fragrances and candles and a section  that is dedicated to the fashionable man with a  range of wonderfully selected clothes. All heavy dose of local charm!
